7th Grade
Tech & Engineering
Mr. Johnson
Welcome to 7th grade Tech & Engineering! This course meets everyday for 10 weeks or 1 quarter. It is my goal for students to challenge themselves, take risks, and not be afraid to fail.

Air Racer Vehicles
During our Air Racer Vehicle Unit, students will use an old cereal box to layout and precisely measure the dimensions of their vehicle. The goal is to have their racer travel at least 60 feet down the hallway. Close enough is no longer good enough. Accuracy and craftsmanship are the keys to success in this project!
Project:
Air Racer
Cad & 3D Modeling
During our CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) unit, students will use Onshape web based CAD software in order to design three dimensional (3D) models. Through the use of teacher created instructional tutorials students are able to work at their own pace. Once the planning for the dragster is completed the students will use the band saw, drill press, belt sander, and hand tools to build it out of wood. Everyone will be trained and required to complete a safety evaluation on each machine as a prerequisite for completing the project. Upon completion of the unit students will be able to engineer anything they can imagine!
Projects:
Design and create a custom keychain.
Design and create a CO2 dragster body.
Design and create the front and rear wheels for a CO2 dragster.
3D Printing
During our 3D Printing Unit, students will use Prusa 3D Printers to print a 3D model of their custom designed keychain and dragster wheels. Upon completion of the unit student will be able import a .stl file into the Prusa slicing software, prepare the file to be sliced into layers, and export it as gcode in order for the printers to be able to run the program. This unit allows students to see their CAD designs come to life through the magic of 3D printing!
Projects:
3D Print a keychain.
3D Print the front and rear wheels for a CO2 dragster.
