14 & 15 year olds
The process for 14 and 15 year olds is a bit different. You will need to obtain a Work Permit from the school. The document is linked below and can be obtained from your counselor. There are two things you need to do.
Find a job that says they will hire you
Provide documentation that proves you can work.
Finding a job
You need to find a job that will hire students who are 14 or 15 years old. Illinois has some restrictions that companies must follow when hiring 14 and 15 year olds. The business that you plan on working at will need to provide a letter to the school stating the job title, type of work, and hours of work. It is preferred that the letter is on company letterhead.
OR
They can fill out and sign the work permit application itself. Some businesses may find this easier, especially if they don't have company letterhead.
Providing documentation
There are several things you need to provide to your counselor.
Birth certificate
Written permission from parents
Statement from doctor (school physical is acceptable)
copy of social security card
TALK TO YOUR COUNSELOR to see how they want you to bring in this paperwork.
Work Permit
Once the counselor has everything they need, they can issue you a work permit.
