The goal of OppNet’s Advocacy Committee is to help shape how the OppNet community can advocate for systemic changes in education. Committee members have facilitated storytelling spaces with peers and led discussions with legislators at the state and federal levels.
Membership on the Committee has two levels: Advisory Board and Committee Member.
The Advocacy Advisory Board is a hands-on position for college Fellows who are interested in being directly involved with the planning and execution of the Committee’s activities, and who have a vested interest in legislative advocacy. To be a Board Member, you must have attended at least one Advocacy Committee event with us, such as the NCAN Leadership Summit, NYSACAC Legislative Advocacy Day, NYC Youth Summit, or United Justice Coalition Summit. Applications for this position open during the summer.
Being an Advocacy Committee Member grants you access to our mailing list, where we will share various internal and external opportunities to be involved in advocacy work, and you may choose which you would like to participate in based on your interest and availability. Opportunities will be both paid and unpaid, virtual and in-person. Sign up for this mailing list here.
