The streets in Briarford Place were constructed between 1959 and 1963. They are constructed of 1.50 inches of asphalt over 6.00 inches of rock base. The streets received a mill and overlay in 1985 and have had multiple chip seals, patching, and other maintenance between these times.
The City inspects its streets every two years. The streets in Briarford generally fall into "Fair" to "Failed," even after maintenance work. Since the street no longer responds or greatly improves from maintenance work, it is past its useful life and needs to be reconstructed.
The project will include full removal and replacement of the existing pavement, sidewalk, curb and gutter, streetlights, and storm sewer. The new pavement will be concrete instead of asphalt. This is in an effort to greatly reduce maintenance over the years.
Utility relocations for the project are anticipated to begin in the late fall of 2022 and street reconstruction beginning in spring 2023. The project will be completed in fall 2023, with final restoration, including tree planting and sod, usually taking place in October - November.
