K-5 Homegrown Institute

This summer D97 will be bringing a Homegrown Institute from the Reading and Writing Project at Teachers College to the district!

The Institute will run all day for 4 days, July 15-18. Interested participants must be able to attend all 4 days of professional learning.

Homegrowns are modeled after the Summer Institutes held at Teachers College in New York. Homegrowns are designed to give teachers an immersion into state-of-the-art methods and curriculum for teaching reading workshop.

Reading Institute Highlights:

  • Building a reading culture
  • Foundational reading skills
  • Toolkits to support strategic reading
  • Writing about reading
  • Flexible, responsive small group work
  • Using read-aloud to support higher comprehension
  • Partnerships and book clubs

We can accept up to 25 staff members for grades K-2 and 25 staff members for grades 3-5. We expect participants in this unique opportunity to serve as ambassadors of the Reading Institute, and be willing to open their classrooms to colleagues as lab classrooms in the 2019-2020 school year. Applications are now closed, but interested participants may complete this form to be added to the wait list for the Institute.
