Non-technology Based Activities to Support Pragmatic Language Skills

A few ideas to facilitate pragmatic language skills at home:

  • Participate in pretend play activities with your child

  • Play simple games to encourage turn taking

  • Participate in group activities with family members and friends

  • Create stories together

  • Role play scenarios in which there are problems and solutions

  • Allow your child to lead during motivating activities

  • Look at facial expressions and discuss the feelings associated with the facial expressions.

  • Practice through miming making faces that show different feelings.

  • Look at pictures together to encourage descriptive language about a topic or thing, with the adult prompting to keep the child on topic.
