Please email! @jmilburn@op97.org If you'd like to chat via phone or video call, we can set that up too. I am here to make your child's year successful! I believe partnering with parents via open communication is one of the best ways we can support our students.
If your child is not well or must be absent for any reason, please call the main attendance line at 708-665-3062 to report their absence via Beye's attendance email address: @beyeattendance@op97.org Please also let us know via email at jmilburn@op97.org.
1. Set (and keep) a schedule. Go to bed at a good time. Eat healthy foods.
2. Talk about and reinforce what was taught. Ask questions and speak positively about school to your child.
3. Read with your child nightly! Build a love of learning early!
All students will be assessed using our usual kindergarten assessments that relate to reading, writing, handwriting, and math. We will share those results with you at parent teacher conferences, through report cards, and via email. You can also check their work coming home. Most work that comes home in their red folder is practice work and can stay at home (or be recycled after you look at it). We will share the 1:1 assessments with you during conferences. If your child needs more support to reach grade level benchmarks, we will work with you to create a plan to help them reach their goals.
Our morning is filled with Morning Meeting & literacy content- Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop, Read a Louds, & Phonics. We also will have a morning recess and snack break. Lunch will be at 11:10, followed by another recess ("lunch recess"). The afternoon will be filled with math, science/ social studies, and special area classes (Art, PE, Music, Library, Spanish).
All students received a District 97 issued iPad. Students will be using these devices in school. We will keep them in our classroom.
There is a school supply list for Kindergarten. We use "community" supplies for the most part in our classroom and share materials.
Extras needed: Headphones for iPad, spare set of clothes in their locker
Daily: Snack, Water Bottle, Lunch (if necessary)
Review the schedule for the next day
Read to them! Reading is all about the JOY right now- no pressure on asking them to try to read yet! (unless they are ready for that and happy with it)
Do non-technology activities to support school - ask your child to show you their handwriting! Handwriting may be a great parent activity to help with/ review each evening (we will do one page a day once we get started on handwriting)... Other ideas: read, play make-believe, puppets, write lists for the grocery store, lists of favorite toys, write a letter to a grandparent or friend, draw, play with play-doh, sort items, etc.
Most importantly: Relax & play!
