The Guidelines for each of the 3 practicum are posted on the Practicum Guide
these are progression guidelines for lesson planning and teaching
they outline roles of the Associate Teacher, Teacher Candidate and the Faculty
they have links and general timelines to the Interim and Final Report
As it is important to support our Teacher Candidates to be successful in their placement, tracking is critical.
Please feel free to use the Tracking Form for your own data (there are links to email templates for check-ins from the Foundations Instructor).
You may want to review the page for Associate Teachers on the FE Guide regarding their responsibilities including ongoing feedback, the Interim Report, etc.
If Teacher Candidates need additional support please direct them to the Upper Year Academic Advising Services page which has links for chatting with the advising team, making appointments, virtual drop-ins, etc.
The Improvement Action Plan is here for you as well.
Our Associate Teachers graciously take on the added responsibility of working with our teacher candidates when the demands of their classroom have never been so high! We truly appreciate all that they do as teacher educators in the field.
As an advisor/ liaison, you also play a critical role in the growth and learning of teacher candidates across university and school settings! Part of your role includes maintaining ongoing contact and fostering relationships with the Associate Teacher, and offering support, especially if a teacher candidate is struggling. Please communicate with the Associate Teacher that you can provide clarification regarding policies, processes, and institutional support as needed.
Much like the K-12 context, as educators, we can scaffold and provide support, but some learners (including teacher candidates) may require additional time and experience to successfully meet the program’s program objectives. Associate Teachers need to be aware that if a Teacher Candidate is experiencing challenges, they should communicate their concerns with the teacher candidate and you, as the Advisor, first and as soon as possible. This may provide opportunities for additional supports to be implemented to support the teacher candidate.
