Educational Studies (EDST) is about understanding how people learn in different educational contexts (formal schooling, workplace, community), the intersection of the different elements that facilitate and/or impact learning, how to design and effectively use tools and technologies for learning, and developing the knowledge, competencies, and skills to support your success as an educator in our rapidly-changing world.

Specializations
Students can further personalize their studies by choosing a specialization, which will be listed on your academic transcript and can highlight specific competency areas for future employment.
To graduate with a specialization, students must:
Declare an area of specialization, either (a) at the time of application, or (b) before your final semester (by submitting a Change of Program request)
ANDComplete a minimum of four electives from the desired specialization area.

Program History
Program History
The EDST program is designed around the Fully Online Learning Community (FOLC) model proposed by Dr. Roland van Oostveen and colleagues (2016).
The FOLC model is a way of learning online that focuses on working together to solve real-world problems. In this model, students and instructors create a shared digital space where they interact in live video sessions and online activities. By collaborating and thinking critically, students build strong connections and develop unique solutions while taking charge of their own learning. The model emphasizes social presence (i.e., building relationships) and cognitive presence (i.e., thinking actively and deeply) to create a supportive, engaging online community where everyone contributes to the learning process (EILAB, n.d.).
