Renderforest is an online design tool with a strong emphasis on video creation. It offers quick and easy tools for the creation of educational videos (such as explainer videos), as well as the tools to create individualized characters, logos, slideshows and presentations.
In the Classroom
A significant chunk of renderforest's prebuilt templates are dedicated to the creation of educational videos. Using renderforest a teacher can create captivating whiteboard or cut-out explainer videos to introduce topics or convey information in a new and exciting way. Renderforest also offers the chance for a teacher to hand such tasks to students, allowing them another creative avenue to present their thoughts and findings on a variety of topics. As a method of accommodation, renderforest videos may find a niche for those students who prefer to share their work in a dynamic and creative way, but are too nervous to record themselves delivering their information.
Research Connections
The cognitive theory of multimedia learning champions video as a highly effective tool for student learning with significant impact on outcomes as it challenges the student to reorganize the information to build their knowledge (Mayer, 2014). Explainer videos, such as those that renderforest creates trade on that built-in efficacy of multimedia to generate meaningful learning experiences without need for extensive effort or artistic skill. Furthermore, by including the student in the creation process, we give them even more opportunities to internalize the content they are presenting and make that knowledge their own.
