'Optimising Participation,
Establishing Excellence'
Here at OSA PE, we endeavour to provide both theoretical and practical opportunities for our learners to take part in physical activity. The high-quality teaching and learning will inspire students to understand the value of physical activity and through this, learners will develop compassion and respect for themselves, each other and the subject.
The Physical Education curriculum will develop an array of skills including student leadership, resilience and communication both in lessons and through the offering of a comprehensive and well-structured enrichment programme. In turn, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their participation and character development to experience success both individually and as part of a team.
We also aim to promote the positive physical and mental development and well-being of all students. Students will develop rich and meaningful relationships with staff and each other, extracting support to make informed decisions in order to realise their ambitions.
The department consists of eight teachers (five male and three female) who work closely to deliver our practical and theoretical curriculum, and extensive extra-curricular programme whilst now beginning to offer sporting trips across the UK for this year. Within our team, we have a dedicated school sports coordinator who works closely with our local primary schools offering a bespoke physical education provision suited to each school assisted by our Year 10 and Year 12 Sports Captains.
In recent years, we have experienced extra-curricular success across a range of sports including being crowned district champions for football and basketball respectively across different years. We also have had many individual performers be recognised for their achievements in their own interests beyond our school. The expectation of the department is that learners work hard both in lessons and extra-curricular clubs in order to improve their own and their team's performances and be the best sportsperson they can possibly be.
With the physical development of the school, it is an exciting time to be a part of OSA PE and OSA as a whole as we look to place further emphasis on Physical Education and provide even more opportunities for our learners to engage with. From Year 7 we want to develop our learners to become motivated, confident and competent in physical education in order to pursue a healthy active lifestyle throughout the life course.
In year 10, learners at OSA will have the opportunity to become a Sports Captain. The role of the Sports Captain is to lead and organise house sports events as well as taking on leadership roles at primary school sports events within Welwyn & Hatfield. Since the initiative's inception, OSA has produced some of the best Sports Captains that have had a positive influence on younger learners and we are always proud of our Captains when they take on this responsibility.
