Supervising the MYP (Year 7-9) Art Club ECA which will take place during Tuesday lunchtimes in Term 3.

At least 2 Year 12 students per House (preferably 4) will be asked to support and encourage Year 7 and 8 students in their House teams in the Inter-house Battle of The Books competition. You don't have to be a reader, just enjoy organising and engaging the younger students, making sure they stay committed to the task.
Battle of the Books will run for Term 1 and Term 2. The focus in Term 1 is reading and knowing the books, Term 2 is focused on battling! Any questions, please ask, but you will be expected to commit to every Monday lunchtime 1.05-1.30 for two terms.

A one year commitment to create media posts to celebrate the CAS initiatives of your peers. Including monthly articles in the CAS Highlight Section of the School Newsletter.
We are looking for student Mentors who speaks Mandarin or Cantonese to support Chinese families by involving them in school activities a lot more. Your will be supporting to put the following target to come true.
1. Engaging Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin)speaking students by having vertical communication group / 1 to 1 support
2.Chinese groups with monthly gatherings with a specific theme (academic , friendship, social media, others ).
3. You may help teacher to do this : Engaging Parent Involvement: Facilitate opportunities for Chinese parents to actively engage with the school community. Some ideas like (1) parent workshops, seminars, or information sessions. (2) involving Chinese parents to join or even volunteering in school activities like the winter fair or Stars. (3) having more involvement for CNY : eg: flower selling or Chinese homemade charity sale. (4) adding things to the school menu: monthly special Chinese food with limited offers.
This is a Preschool Xmas Fair where volunteers will be running small activities for 1-2 hours on Saturday, 22nd November. A majority of the children at the Fair will be 3-8 years old.
Examples of activities include the bakery, face painting, tattoos, game stalls, arts and crafts stalls etc.
The activities have been planned by the Fair organisers, so no organisation or preparation is necessary. Just a lovely experience supporting our local community!
The Fair would be across the street from Island School at the back of the brick building opposite. Nice and close by!

Calling all runners who can inspire others to lead a running club. These athletes have honed their skills through dedication, perseverance, and teamwork. They understand the importance of pacing, endurance, and strategy in both training and racing. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, this session will offer valuable insights and techniques to enhance our performance.

This dance club will be led by Saya Kawano, a former professional dancer in Los Angeles. The Dance ECA will teach students dance techniques in forms of jazz, modern and contemporary dance styles. Students will be tested to their limits so they can further their technique to better their dance performance abilities. This is a lunchtime opportunity for Y12/13 students to help assist this club. Moveable clothing is required and an interest in dance is a plus.
Do you have a knack for media production, and/or digital graphics, and want to volunteer your skills to help create promotional/marketing content and print materials for the tech Dept? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
Your work would be displayed in and around school, and on our social media channels.
Y7, 8 & 9 DT Teaching Assistant: We are looking for Year 12 volunteers to assist in each Year 7, 8 and 9 DT classes. Your role will be as a 'teaching assistant', and you will work alongside the teacher for the first two terms of Year 12 in a maximum commitment of 1 lesson per two-week cycle. This will count as a CAS experience and fulfil several of the learning outcomes required.

Calling Y12s to use leadership as Dungeon Masters to guide and teaching students through story and decision making.
To help our younger students settle in, build confidence with English Reading and Writing, and navigate school life, we need Year 12 leaders to run weekly lunchtime support sessions for Year 7–9 students.
What to Expect:

An opportunity to help students from Y11 with their Team Projects for Explorations, by sharing tips and assisting them in kick-starting their projects. Please keep in mind that this will be a relatively long-term commitment, as you will be working for about an hour per week until March
A Small Team of Year 12 and 13 students is needed to help support the new rooftop garden initiative through planning and leading.
You will be responsible for co-supervising younger students during the Garden Gang Activity, as well as identifying, implementing and managing the next phases of this sustainable project.
Would make an excellent CAS project combining elements of Service and Action.

During our production of Chicago earlier this year, Y12 students took charge of directing, designing, stage managing, costume, makeup and sound. When we say took charge, we mean initially working with Arts staff and then taking control of these areas for the duration of rehearsals and show week.

You would be leading a team of students from your house to provide setup and support for your house. You will be given training on the equipment in the performing space, the courtyard and the sports hall.

You can apply for this program yourselves, or you may be specifically invited by Ms Callow due to your English teacher's recommendation. You must have achieved an A* in FLE and/or WL yourselves to be eligible for this program.

A new opportunity to support students in Year 7 to 9 in Makerspace/STEM activities. For this role, you will be asked to create project ideas and run these with the students, support students in creating their own work and look to build up the resources and opportunities in this area.
What:
You will be helping students in all year groups complete some work, practice for their oral assessments, or take a make-up test.
When:
This will take place one lunchtime a week (likely Wednesday). This will begin as soon as ECAs start. Once committed, you must attend every week.

You will be teaching high-achieving Y7 and 8 students how to do challenging maths problems. These could range from maths competition questions, extension problems students couldn’t do in class or anything you think is appropriately challenging and fun for Y7 and 8 students.

Who:
You are likely a HL Maths student who enjoys solving not-so-straightforward maths problems. You are responsible for planning what you teach (with support from a maths teacher). You need to be able to communicate creatively and clearly.
Why:
You have the freedom to share what you love about maths with younger students. You get the satisfaction of not only doing but also teaching high-achieving students how to do challenging maths problems.
What:
You will be helping Year 7 and 8 students understand concepts they struggle with in their maths lessons. You will teach them how to do their maths classwork and homework.
When:
This will take place Wednesday lunchtime. This will likely begin after half term. Once committed, you must attend every week.
Who:
You are likely caring, patient, proactive and organised. You enjoy helping and motivating younger students to learn. You need to be able to communicate clearly and break problems down into smaller bits to help students understand.

Join MedAware and tackle one of Hong Kong's pressing healthcare and medication challenges! We partner with local NGOs to improve medication access for elderly and low-income communities. Join ISLMUN 4.0 as an admin and help organise our school's annual MUN conference! As an admin, you will be given the chance to observe the discourse, arguments and negotiations of student delegates as it happens.
Your role will include getting the campus ready for the conference, passing notes amongst delegates in committee rooms, photography and helping the Executive Board out with other miscellaneous tasks.

Y7, 8 & 9 Science Teaching Assistant: We are looking for Year 12 volunteers to assist in each Year 7, 8 and 9 Science classes. The Island School Science Journal has grown massively over the last few years and we are looking to recruit 15 to 20 volunteers to form the editorial team. You will be helping students by offering advice on their writing and research skills and also ensure they avoid the pitfalls of plagiarism in their work. We also need to have volunteers involved in the collation and production of the final journal.

Sophos Academy: Empowering Futures Through Education
Sophos Academy is an initiative founded in August 2024 by secondary students with a mission to connect volunteer student tutors with our NGO partners, providing crucial academic support. We aim to empower underprivileged students by fostering personal growth, enhancing academic and social skills, and building a foundation for lifelong learning. Our values center on compassion, resilience, commitment, and empowerment, creating an environment of inclusivity and growth. Through our work, we strive to make a tangible impact, such as providing over 500 tutoring hours to underprivileged students since August 2024, with 25+ tutors currently contributing 65 hours weekly. We partner with organizations like HK Refugee Union and Step In Step Up (SISU) to deliver tailored support, including virtual English lessons and access to technology for learning. We are particularly grateful for our recent donation of laptops from Louis Vuitton, which will significantly extend our reach to all students at Refugee Union seeking access to virtual tutoring.
What Will Volunteers Do?
As a volunteer tutor with Sophos Academy, you will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on the educational journey of students. This involves providing academic support through one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions, either online or in person, depending on the needs of our partner NGOs. Volunteers will help students with their studies, build their confidence, and foster a love for learning. You will also contribute to creating engaging learning materials and assisting with the overall development and implementation of our programs, helping to empower the next generation.

We are looking for student leaders to lead our front-of-house team. This will involve working with younger students on signage, ticketing, promotion and helping people to their seats.
As a STEM committee member, you will play a key role in supporting the Heads of the Committee to lead STEM initiatives and activities across the school. Your responsibilities may include:
• Assisting the STEM committee leadership in the planning and organisation of STEM-based events, activities, and educational opportunities for students. This could involve helping to develop the agenda, identify speakers/presenters, coordinate logistics, and promote the events.
• Actively promoting STEM-related events and initiatives to generate student interest and participation. This may involve creating marketing materials, presentations, and presentations to share with the broader school community.
• Collaborating with teachers and administrators to integrate more STEM-based learning into the classroom by providing input and support to help infuse STEM principles and skills across different subject areas.
• Serving as a STEM ambassador and spokesperson, representing the committee and its activities to all stakeholders in order to build awareness and excitement around STEM education.
• Participating in committee meetings to share ideas, provide updates on your areas of responsibility, and contribute to the overall direction of the STEM program.
• Working with STEM teachers to plan and support STEM-related ECAs, such as our Cross-Year Mentoring programme, or STEM-X
Being a member of the STEM committee is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership, organisation, and communication skills while making a meaningful impact on STEM education for students. This will count as a CAS experience.

The role will be to overseas a large group of students. In particular, I want to create subgroups around areas of interest which will include:

The first job will be to draw up a remit for each group and then a plan of action for the year

This will involve galvanising other students in the school
Following on from the Winter Fair 2024, we are looking for two teams of year 12 students to manage the Island School Winter Fair.
Team 1: Up to 4 ARTS team members and 4 WANBO members. This team will manage and present the Entertainment programme and recycling programmes for the fair. Mentored by Ms. Vittachi.
