As well as coordinating the school's response to International Women's Day and our own Island School Women's Week, we aim to raise awareness around issues affecting girls and women and implement lasting change towards barriers faced by them. Our major project this year is changing the House names on a permanent basis. The challenge is maintaining our school's history and tradition whilst accurately reflecting the values of our forward-thinking, diverse community. If you want to be part of Island School history, be part of Girls Rising.

Precious Plastic is an open source global movement of designers, engineers, volunteers, technologists and communities that want to be a part of the solution to plastic pollution. At IS, our project aims to repurpose plastic and waste materials by giving plastic waste a second life. Using the machines we have built through funding provided by the John Ying Wah Gibson Award, we have been transforming plastic waste by shredding and turning them into objects such as beams and sheets and turning these into products such as lamps. Through our project, we also promote the idea of a circular economy to both students as well as the surrounding community, focusing on the importance of sustainability in a highly industrialized society.
