Oneida Nation High School has been employing technology extensively in the classroom over the last several years. Teachers have used Google Apps with students for the creation of school work. Some staff are using Google Classroom to distribute school work. Programs/Websites like IXL, Odysseyware and Renaissance are used extensively in classrooms for education.
High School staff have advocated for a one to one distribution of technology for several years. The current needs have been met through a mix of aging laptops, Microsoft Surfaces, iPads, Chromebooks and traditional labs of PCs and virtual terminals.
Under this initiative a Chromebook will be purchased for every student. The plan calls for the Chromebooks to be available by the beginning of the 4th quarter of the 2016-17 school year. During the fourth quarter the Chromebooks will be maintained in individual classrooms for use by students.
Beginning with the 2017-18 school year the Chromebooks will be distributed to individual students. The current proposal calls for Chromebooks for Freshmen and Sophomores will be kept at ONHS and students will not be allowed to take them home. Juniors and Seniors will be allowed to take the Chromebooks home in order to do homework. This policy will be reviewed from time to time and is subject to change.
It is anticipated that Chromebooks will be replaced after four years in service.
