Gold Growing Leaders Task...

Sophie created this poster to promote a local Onehunga event as part of completing her Gold Growing Leaders.

Olive has written this very realistic and helpful advice to help those of you working on bronze or silver growing leaders.

Tips for if you're feeling stressed about finishing Growing Leaders ( whatever level you are!)

Growing leaders involves a lot of time management and after experiencing and improving on it in my previous years, it is still something that I struggle with!

If you are in this position and need some help with getting through, which is especially hard in lockdown, here are some ideas that may help you with community service ( one of the most common stressful tasks in growing leaders). Remember, if you need some help with something different or have any queries, please contact Mrs Farley or myself ( Olive rm 16, Gold growing leader) . It's ok if you don't finish, it just matters that you gave it a go.

1. A rubbish pick up around your neighborhood or community

2. Reach out to someone who might be a little lonely during this lockdown, for example you could bake something for them, make a card and put it in their letterbox or maybe just have a chat with them from the street.

3. Spread aroha: You could write positive messages with chalk on your sidewalk, make signs...

4. Keep providing food in our school's Pataka Kai. Go for a walk with your family and drop something off as there are some people who could benefit from it.

Zion has created this list of suggestions to help those of you working on bronze or silver growing leaders.

TIPS:

1. READ YOUR ENTIRE BOOKLET AS SOON AS YOU GET IT AND IDENTIFY TASKS YOU CAN DO ON YOUR OWN AND TASKS YOU NEED SUPPORT WITH.

2. REACH OUT TO MRS HOLLEY AND MRS FARLEY WITH QUESTIONS IF YOU NEED SUPPORT.

3. GET YOUR COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS COMPLETED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT LATER.

4. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ALWAYS PUT YOUR OWN SPIN ON THINGS TO PERSONALISE WHEN ANSWERING QUESTIONS.

5. COME UP WITH A REALISTIC AND FEASIBLE PLAN WHEN COMPLETING YOUR BOOKLET.

6. ANSWER TRUTHFULLY WHEN ANSWERING QUESTIONS TO GET THE BEST RESULTS.

Supporting students involved with Bronze and Silver growing leaders

I can be available to answer questions for these students during normal school hours. The best way to contact me would be seesaw or I do check this email address every morning. zionalbie@gmail.com

Thank you

Tips from Anna

  1. Make a plan for each day you are going to do growing leaders.

  1. Do a bit of growing leaders each day rather than doing a lot on 1 day.

  1. Choose leadership goals that aren't too hard to achieve.

  1. After each day think if you've done anything that you could write down in your leadership goal setting.

  1. Don't put off your community service.

  1. Community service doesn't need to be raising money or doing a bake sale.

  1. Do something you enjoy for your community service if possible.

  1. You can interview leaders you admire via an email; it's a lot less scary that way!

  1. Think broadly about leaders you admire. They don't have to be famous people. I once interviewed my teacher, Mrs Holley and even my mum who's an enviro leader!

  1. There are lots of leadership quotes online that you can use.

2021 Growing Leaders @ OPS info page

Please note this is only for children who were involved with Growing Leaders and are already underway with their activities for 2021.

We can not add new children in 2021 sorry.

Our year has not been the one we expected at all for Growing Leaders.

While Lockdown makes completing this more of a challenge, it is not impossible or even that difficult to finish your remaining activities...you just need to spend some time doing the modified activities over the next 5 weeks. This is very achievable for all of you who want to continue.

Getting Support

We will have an optional zoom each week where you can come in and ask questions and get support if this is a good way to do this for you. Another alternative is to email Mrs Holley or Mrs Farley if you have any questions.

Please remember that part of being a leader is taking initiative and communicating when you need help. We will not be chasing anyone to complete these activities, however if you ask or communicate we are here to support you to complete your activities.

The outline left does not contain all of the details you have in your booklet. If you do not have your booklet at home and need help with any of the tasks, please ask at a zoom or email. If your booklet is at school we can work out a plan with you so you can carry on.

The new deadline for completing all tasks and handing them in is Friday 26 November
