Have an incoming student?
The presentation below is shared with incoming 8th grade students as an introduction to what opportunities the World Language Department offers.
Will my child be fluent after studying a World Language at OHS?
The stages of learning a language are measured in proficiency. Depending on how long and seriously a student studies a World Language will effect the level of proficiency attained by the student.
After two years of language study, a student only reaches Novice High or Intermediate Low Proficiency. Further placement at the university level is successful when the student is taking a language at the time of the placement exam and has seriously studied the language over the maximum number of years offered.
How many years of a World Language are required to get into a UW school?
Although UW-Madison is the only UW school to recommend two years of a World Language, it is noted that many schools suggest more than the suggested amount. Please look at the school you are planning to attend.
Skip AP Testing, University Placement Testing by taking Dual Credit French 4!
Students who enroll in French 4 have the option to take it as a regular high school credit course or a dual credit course through the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. This means students continue to take French 4 and are concurrently enrolled as a student at UW-GB and French 202. Upon successful completion of the course, students will automatically earn college credit on their UW-GB transcript.
Study Abroad during High School - For FREE!
The United States Department of State has a variety of programs to specific countries where high school students can study abroad with all expenses paid. Please read through each program carefully for deadlines, applicable countries, and duration of stay.
