Coursework

The College Kickstart program provides students with opportunities to develop the academic, organizational, and personal skills needed for success in college. Coursework and activities may include:

Time Management and Organization – Developing effective habits for managing college coursework, responsibilities, and personal time.
Technology Skills – Building skills with Microsoft tools and learning to navigate college technology platforms and portals for coursework and communication.
Communication Skills – Developing confidence and appropriate communication skills for interacting with college instructors, staff, and peers, both in person and through email.
College Financial Literacy – Learning the basics of paying for college, managing money, and understanding financial responsibilities.
Academic Skills – Strengthening active reading, study strategies, and the responsible and ethical use of AI in college coursework.
Accessibility and Support Services – Learning how to identify and use campus resources and support services when needed.
Career and College Exploration – Exploring career interests, researching potential careers, and connecting those interests to academic and postsecondary pathways.
Campus Life and Independence – Becoming comfortable navigating a college environment while building confidence and independence as a college student.

Courses

Strengths Seminar -1 College Credit

Students explore their individual strengths and learn how to use those strengths to support success in college, careers, and everyday life.

College Course of Choice

Students choose from a variety of Western Technical College courses based on their interests and goals. Courses may include: American Government, Art History, Adobe Illustrator, Manufacturing Robotics, Race, Class, & Gender, Speech, Diversity Studies, and Developmental Chemistry.

Tech X - Lab Jan 20th - March 6th

Students explore different skills,technologies, and programs in the Information Technology Department through hands-on experiences. Activities may include: 3-D Printing, Welding, Horticulture, Soldering, and Laser Engraving.

College Readiness & Executive Finctioning-1.5 High School Elective Credits

Semester-long instruction focuses on developing the organization, time management, communication, and other skills students need for success in college.

Additional Information

Instructors: Courses are taught by instructors from participating school districts and Western Technical College.

Course Cost: School districts cover course materials and course fees.

Transportation: is a collaborative effort between the student/family and the school district.

School Calendar: The program will follow the School District of La Crosse calendar with a few exceptions.

Attendance: Students are expected to notify their instructors of absences.

High School Credit: All completed courses recieve a high school grade and high school credit.
