The nearest airport is Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Please plan to fly into BWI on Sunday, July 19 and fly out Friday, July 24 (after 3 p.m.) or Saturday, July 25. Non-members of Rosetta Commons are responsible for booking and paying for their own airfare. Please inquire with your PI and home institution about reimbursements.
Rosetta Commons members: Your flights will be booked through a travel agent. Please refer to the acceptance email with more information.
The workshop will take place at John Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering Campus. There are several ways to travel between the airport and the university, with the journey taking around 30 mins - 1 hour, so please plan your flight times accordingly. When possible, try to travel with others to help reduce costs, increase safety, and make for a far more fun experience. Here are some options to explore for getting from the airport to the University:
Public Transportation: Light Rail and Bus. Fare is $3.20 ($1.60 each for Light Rail and Bus). Lowest cost option, but trip takes at least 90 minutes (more if trains are delayed due to construction work).
Taxi/Rideshare: Uber/Lyft options are available with pickup at the airport requested upon arrival through the app. It cost approximately $25-40, but prices will vary. Around 30-40 mins, depending on traffic.
Driving: Leaving BWI on I-195, take Exit 2A, MD Route 295 N (Baltimore-Washington Parkway). Follow 295 until it becomes Russell Street. Turn left onto McCulloh Street. Turn right onto N. Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. Turn left at Howard Street. One block past 29th Street, turn left at the traffic island (just before the Baltimore Museum of Art) onto Wyman Park Drive. Pass the Mason Hall brick circle and make the next right into the South garage. Around 35 - 40 mins, depending on traffic.
All participants will be staying in double occupancy rooms at The Study at Johns Hopkins. Reservations will be made in your name and you will be assigned a roommate. Non-members are welcome to book their own lodging at a location of their choosing.
The workshop will take place at John Hopkins University. More information about room location will be available soon.
Plan to independently find/eat breakfast. There are many nearby options. We will provide a very light breakfast snack and coffee service on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday but you may find that you’d like something more substantial.
We will informally organize lunch & dinner outings. A few people will need to take the lead on picking spots and walking small groups to lunch at the various local eateries to grab a quick bite during a lunch hour and when it’s time to break for dinner.
We will bring snacks to the hotel on Monday morning - you are welcome to stock up for the week!
Rosetta Commons members will be reimbursed a modest flat per diem to support your food and ground transportation travel expenses not covered by the workshop. This includes:
$213 = (5 lunch ($13/lunch) + 4 dinners ($20/dinner)) + 2 travel days ($34/day)
Up to $160 for Uber/Lyft rides and/or airport parking.
