Who? Intermediate/Advanced level students and researchers with prior machine learning experience
What? An immersive, hands-on project-based learning experience for moving beyond "out-of-the-box" machine learning models for protein design.
Where? University of Washington, Seattle, WA - Part of Summer RosettaCon 2026
When? August 2 - 8, 2026, The bootcamp bookends Summer RosettaCon, with model training development occurring on the Sunday & Monday before the conference, and results analysis, troubleshooting, and next-step planning happening the following Saturday.
Application Deadline: May 1, 2026
All participants must co-register for Summer RosettaCon.
Participants must have prior machine learning experience. (There is an introductory bootcamp in the fall.)
Academic students and researchers (Rosetta Commons members): Workshop registration fees and lodging costs are covered by Rosetta Commons, but airfare and other travel costs are not included.
Academic students and researchers (Rosetta Commons non-members): $500 registration fee and lodging is not included.
Industry: $1,000 registration fee (this helps support event sustainability) and lodging is not included.
Please see the Travel Guide for more information about lodging and airfare.
How will the event be taught?
Unlike traditional bootcamps, this program combines elements of both a bootcamp and hackathon—there is no formal instruction. Instead, participants will work in a high teacher-student ratio environment with a diverse team of experts providing guidance. Students must come prepared with a well-scoped project, a suitable dataset, and a solid understanding of existing models.
What are the expected learning outcomes?
Participants will gain practical experience in training models tailored to their specific research needs, learning about the process, key variables, limitations, and possibilities of model development.
Is there any prep work?
A series of required preparatory meetings will help participants scope their project, prepare training/validation/testing data, and ensure readiness to dive in. Participants are encouraged to install all necessary tools and resources on their lab or company clusters.
More information about prep work and course details will be available closer to the event date.
