About the Teacher

Mrs. Rita DiCarne has been teaching for over 35 years and is a proud product of Catholic Education. She attended Resurrection of Our Lord Elementary School and St. Hubert High School, both in Philadelphia. After high school, Mrs. DiCarne pursued her love of music and earned a BS in Music Education from Chestnut Hill College. Later she returned to school and completed her MA in English with a certification in Middle School English from West Chester University.

As a Teacher-Consultant with the West Chester Writing Project (WCWP), Mrs. DiCarne has had the opportunity to facilitate in-services, youth writing camps, and graduate classes. She was also an adjunct faculty member at Bucks County Community College, where she taught Introduction to Academic Writing and authored the curriculum for the college’s traveling Artmobile. In addition, she is a certified tutor in the Wilson Language Program as well as Mental Health First Aid for Adults and Youth.

Mrs. DiCarne is a published author with an article entitled, "Capturing the Power of Poetry in the Classroom," published in Today's Catholic Teacher magazine, and an essay entitled, "From Intro to Coda" published in A Cup of Comfort for Teachers. When not teaching, Mrs. DiCarne’s favorite things to do are to read, write in her Writer’s Notebook, and listen to music. She is also a die-hard Phillies fan. However, her greatest love is to spend time with her husband and family, especially her grandchildren – Parker, Emma, Isabella, and Nolan.
