Dear Parents,
Welcome to Second Grade! My name is Ms. Dorothy Hogan and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am very excited to be part of the OLM family. I am starting my thirty-sixth year of teaching, sixth here at OLM. I’m sure this will be a school year like no other.
Second Grade is an incredible adventure that is filled with wonderful activities and experiences. We will have fun reading fantastic books, writing interesting stories, completing Math investigations, learning cursive writing, making new friends, and learning how to become an independent learner. It will also be a special sacramental year for your child as well!
Learning is a team effort and together we will help your child become an independent, joyful learner. As for your support, I would suggest helping your child complete his/her daily homework and finding ways to read together as often as possible. I would also ask you to please download and complete the necessary forms from FACTS that need to be completed at the start of the school year.
In addition, I am asking that each child have a “Rainy Day Kit” to be kept in school. It will be used when we are inside for recess. You can include puzzles, small toys, or anything that your child would enjoy doing on his/her own. Electronic games are not permitted. Please use a box no bigger than a shoe box to store everything in. I have also attached a copy of the stationary list for my room. (Please note, a cloth book cover is no longer needed for my class)
If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, I would like to provide additional support at school. I understand that you are not always able to share details and that’s okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend, please email me “Handle with Care”. Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience or help during the day.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting your child on Wednesday.
Ms. Hogan
