Nikiesha Hamilton '12 is currently the Campaign Manager for City Council Candidate, Kenya Handy-Hilliard, who is running in District 40 which consist of: Prospect Lefferts Garden, Flatbush, Ditmas Park, Kensington, Southern Crown Heights, and East Flatbush. Their campaign is called Kenya For The People 2021, and they would love to recruit some interns/volunteers from Oliver. Here is an overview of the various positions they are looking to fill. The opportunities are unpaid, but provide incredible experience/education and they can help with securing school credit and/or community service hours.
In addition to this campaign, Nikiesha is also the Founder of Afeni Creative Studios - a cultural policy consulting agency that works to design new political and cultural frameworks to protect and cultivate the Black imagination and culture for the African Diaspora. Educators and youth advocates are invited to connect with Mastery Transcript Consortium (MTC), where our very own Tamika Guishard ('98) is Director of Communications and Development. As our youth make incredible strides during this unprecedented time, it is important now more than ever that we honor their growth, even if traditional transcripts were not built to capture the competencies and skills unearthed over this past year. The Power Fund is an initiative started by New York poverty-fighting organization Robin Hood to elevate nonprofit leaders of color whose work increases mobility from poverty."
