MY EARLY YEARS DEFINE ME!
My name is Olga Lucia Patarroyo Vargas. I am a first generation Latina.
I was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia and thanks to my grandmother, Anna Victoria Vargas (nuestra adorada Matriarca QEPD), I came to the US to visit for the first time when I was 8 years old.
Two years later, my parents decided we would move permanently to South Florida. Becoming a U.S. Resident opened my eyes to a world of wonder and opportunity!
One morning, soon thereafter, I unexpectedly got a major headache, then had convulsions, fainted and went into a state of coma. I found out a day and a half later, after waking up in a CAT SCAN, not knowing where I was nor where my parents were. One of the scariest, yet most calming moments of my life.
I must tell you though.... waking up from a coma sure gave me a different outlook and perspective in life; which has certainly helped me to manage other moments of fear and uncertainty with resilience, courage, belief and trust that everything happens for a reason and that it happens for us not to us! We all have the choice to learn, to grow, and to respond positively to unforeseen events, no matter the difficulty. All the lessons I have learned, had led me to become the:
Wisdom-seeker, Optimistic-outlook, Love-guided and Faith-decision-making person that I am and why I choose to feed the good WOLF. Those of you who know me, understand what I'm talking about. MY EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL LIFE
I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and an MBA with an HR concentration from Virginia Tech, at which time, I moved back to South Florida where I began my Human Resources (HR) career path and gained wonderful experience at multinational and growing organizations.
I am very grateful to say that I now have over 20 years of experience in HR Leadership roles collaborating with C-Level Executives and Business Leaders in Strategy, Culture, Diversity & Inclusion, Wellness, People and Organizational Development, etc.
This journey has now led me to Entrepreneurship. As a Latina, I have to say it was not an easy journey, but I was blessed to find wonderful mentors and coaches that supported me along the way. I would not be here without them!
As part of my HR career, I led and supported the growth and development of many wonderful colleagues who trusted me and have become great friends. Now, it is time for me to coach many more "Colegas & Amigas", at a greater scale, using my background and experience in Thought, Behavioral and Positive Psychology as well as Talent Management & Development!
I have reflected on many personal and professional growth and development lessons learned as a first generation Latina, so I include those in my Life & Career Coaching Program!
