The 2023 Science Fair

The Science Fair was on January-10-2024. The Science Fair happened earlier than last year because Mrs. Lawrence was having a baby! There were three choices for methods of projects this year:

The Scientific Method
An Invention
Coding (only for 5th and 6th grade)

We asked questions to 2 different students. Sophia Hermenegildo (1st grade) and Kyle Vergoni (5th grade).

Here are Sophia’s answers:

Q: What is your project?

A: It's about gummies

Q: Are you with a partner?

A: No

Q: What grade are you in?

A: 1st

Q: Where did you get your idea?

A: From another experiment

Q: Is this your first Science fair? If it's not, then what science fair is it?

A: second science fair

Next up we have answers from Kyle:

Q: What is your project?

A: It’s about hockey

Q: Are you with a partner?

A: No

Q: What grade are you in?

A: 5th grade

Q: Where did you get your science fair idea?

A: I love hockey and I think hockey is a great sport

Q: Is this your first science fair? If it's not, what science fair is it?

A: 3-4

That is all the questions we asked some of the students doing the science fair.

We also have interviewed Mrs. Lawrence herself, the one that runs the science fair.

These are the questions that we asked Mrs. Lawrence:

Q: How did you come up with the idea of the science fair?

A: So I inherited the science fair from this position.

Q: How many years have you been doing the science fair?

A: 6th Science Fair I have done.

Q: What was the best science fair project you’ve seen over the years?

A: Some of my favorites were testing Printing and Conditions of a Printer, and hydroponic gardens, and lastly some 6th graders 3D printed a water bottle holder so that their water bottles wouldn’t tip over and annoy the teacher.

Q: What was your favorite Science Fair?

A: It's hard to pick a favorite but the 2023 Science Fair was definitely special because we hadn’t been able to do it the past 3 years due to covid.

THE BOOSTERTHON

You all probably heard of Boosterthon right? Well if you haven’t then we’ll tell you about it! The boosterthon started in March and you get to meet someone who will talk to you and show you videos during lunch time. He will also tell you about the prizes and rewards we all get if we donate money at https://mybooster.com/v3. At the end of the Boosterthon, if we reached our goal of 25,000 dollars we got to silly string the principal! This year we reached over 20,000 dollars. We earned a silly hair day, a teacher student switch day, a movie day, and lots of prizes! Sadly we did not reach our $25,000 goal but we got pretty close!!!

An Interview with Officer Tracy

Q: Why did you become a police officer?

A: I wanted to help people and I like interacting with them.

Q: How long have you been a police officer?

A:21 years

Q: Why did you choose to work here?

A:I like working with children and I have two kids here

Q: What do you do every day at work?

A: Play sports with kids,school crosswalk, help build relationships with kids.

Q: Is there a police comfort dog and could you bring him or her?

A: Hopefully one by the end of this year.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: I play golf, coach girls softball, men's league softball, snowboarding, and most importantly spending time with my family

An Interview with Emily Wyman - Editor of ORR newspaper

Q. Are you excited to see the newspaper when it’s finished?

A: “I am so excited to see all the hard work of our journalists.”

Q. How did you become the editor of the newspaper at your school?

A. “At my school I was a writer and I worked and when there was a spot open, I became the new editor.”

Q. What's your favorite type of article to write about?

A. “I love writing about school news and promoting the clubs at ORR.”

Q. Do you think the club will be a success?

A. “I definitely think it will be a success. There is a very strong group of students.”

Grade 4 concert 🎶🎵🎼

On February 2nd, the 4th grade band and chorus surprised the school with their amazing talent to sing and play exotic songs. Some of the songs the chorus sang were, “Old Joe Clark”, “Star Spangled Banner”, “One-Bottle-Pop”, “Alfred”, and “Grand Old Flag”. The band played “Mary’s Little Lamb”, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, “London Bridge”, “Jingle Bells”, “We Will Rock You”, and some of “Star Wars”.
