Splatter & Chatter: An Interview with Mrs. Smith
By: Peyton Melanson And Nina Sylvia
We got a new art teacher this winter so we decided to interview her to get to know her!
We asked Mrs. Smith why she decided to come back to Sippican because, if you didn't know she actually used to work here! She said she wanted to come back because she loves the community of teaching art and has a lot of great memories of teaching here at Sippican. Ms. Smith is also really thankful for being chosen to be the art teacher at our school. We also asked Mrs. Smith why she decided to be an art teacher. She said she loves being an art teacher because she enjoys working with children and it combines passion of creating art in one job.
Mrs. Smith introduced something new in the art room… class dojo! Since our school isn't used to using class dojo we had to ask her what we do on dojo day. She said the dojo day is a grand celebration in the art room to reward students for their positive behavior with prizes and students get to play on dojo island. Next we asked her what differences she noticed in afternoon classes and morning classes. Ms. Smith answered that she noticed that they are more awake and alert and she noticed that the afternoon classes are ready to go home after a long day of work. We lastly asked what do you do in your free time? She said she likes to walk her dogs on trails and likes to go to the beach and travel with family and likes to bring her watercolors on vacation or just paint.
Welcome back to Sippican Mrs. Smith!!!
Smeaton Speaks: An Interview with Ms Smeaton
By: Emma Grace Daniel and Isabelle Waterman
In December, after Thanksgiving we got a new teacher at Sippican in 4th grade named…. MISS SMEATON!!!
We asked where she worked before she came here. She said she taught at Westport and Dartmouth in private school. She has experience with all the grades, just not 4th. She was a special education teacher for people that need extra help. Then we asked, “Why did you choose Sippican School?” She thinks it is supportive and a good community. She really likes how we have a lot of events and a lot of parent volunteers helping like VASE and there are a lot of resources like Norman, our comfort dog. He is a very good school dog and helps a lot.
Welcome to Sippican Ms. Smeaton, we are lucky to have you as a teacher!
Emily Wyman Going To College
By:Abigail Gherard and Aurora Craffey
Emily Wyman is an ORR student who has been volunteering for the Sippican newspaper all year. She is in her senior year and used to be a Sippican student. She helped us make some articles for Sippican Scoop. She is going to Boston College (BC). She has applied for Stone Hill, Providence and BC. She is studying elementary education. She is hoping to be a teacher or an entrepreneur. She is considering joining the newspaper club at college. She is not going to play a sport for college but she is going to play tennis for fun not for school. Emily is sad to stop volunteering for the Sippican Scoop when she goes to college but she is so happy to do it this year.
Star Kindergarteners
By: Abigail Gherard and Aurora Craffey
Star kindergarteners are kind kids. That describes Luke, Grace and Kinsley. These kids are part of the Sippican School Community in Mrs Horan’s class. We interviewed them to see how their first year at Sippican is going. Their dream jobs are Luke wants to be principal, Grace wants to work at a zoo, and Kinsley wants to be a dentist. When asked their favorite specialist, Luke said gym and so did Kinsley. Grace said she loves art. Their time at Sippican is off to a great start!
