Norman Normanates

the School for the

For the first time ever, our school dog has Norminated our school! Officer Tracy and Norman are now starting an award system called the Norman Awards! I interviewed Officer Tracy to learn the details about the Norman Awards.

Officer Tracy said that the Norman awards are a way to recognize students doing the right thing. He states, “I got the idea from another school that does it.” He said any staff member can nominate a student, then they go through a process where he picks random students. Each staff member gets a paper that they fill out with the person's name, the date, and how they were chosen and they get a stuffie that looks like Norman and a certificate. Finally, he said that people can not be picked twice because only a few people get picked a year. Check out some award winners at our next all school meeting!

Sippican Science Fair

This year students from Sippican School entered into the Science Fair. People could either do a Scientific Method, inventions that solve a problem or coding (only for grades 5 and 6)! Mad Science was there doing paper airplanes which was a big hit! It was on March 26th on a Wednesday afternoon 4:00-6:00. The judges were teachers from the school. The science fair was run by Chelsey Lawrence. We interviewed Mrs. Lawrence about the science fair. We asked if there would be any other events and she said “Yes the book sale in the library from 4-6 pm.” She also shared that the most popular project type was a scientific method project.

Book Fair and Literacy Night Exposed!

The Book Fair happened over the week of the 24-28 of March! Literacy Night also happened the same week! Guess what!? They were on the same night! They called it Skip the Screen Week! We interviewed Mrs. Barrett, Mrs Couet, and Mrs. Riquinha to get the details.

First we interviewed Mrs. Couet and Mrs Riquinha about Literacy Night. We asked “How did you think of literacy night?” They said that Mrs. Barrett reached out to them with the idea. They said that the Bluey theme was because a lot of kids knew about it and they liked it. It was very busy with scavenger hunts and fun activities. The kids thought it was very popular.

Next we interviewed Mrs. Barrett about the Book Fair. She said that she likes to see the kids with new books. She made 3,500 dollars. The most popular book was Right Back At You by Caroyln Mackler. She also sells limited toys and fidgets. She gets 15 volunteers or so to help. Students loved the books and Bluey! Great job to our amazing teachers!

Mission in Motion: Interview With Sippican Kids About Boosterthon

This semester we interviewed kids from all grades and asked them questions on the boosterthon fundraiser for Sippican. First we asked them if they thought it was fun.Then we asked what they’re favorite part of it was and the upper grades said that they’re favorite part was the run and the younger kids said that they liked the videos better. Lastly there was a big question to be answered- if they liked inside or outside running. Everyone said that they inside much better than outside. A lot of it was because they liked the lights for example 3rd grade Emma Anderson said “Inside because it felt like a party!” All in all the Boosterthon was a success just like always.
