23rd March 2020 - 7:10pm - Message From Daniel - COVID-19 Update #6

Dear Parents and Guardians
I write to you to confirm my email last night - COVID-19 Update # 5 - that our school will follow the recommendation from the Victorian Government and the Chief Health Officer that school holidays commence from tomorrow, Tuesday 24 March. As a result, today, Monday 23 March was the final day of classes for Term 1, 2020.
Students in attendance today were asked to take pencils, a workbook, library books and their headphones home at the conclusion of the day. Staff will be in attendance tomorrow so if you missed the opportunity to have these materials at home, please email your child's teacher or cwindsor@olbrunswickeast.catholic.edu.au to arrange a time to collect them from the front office.
I have been informed by Extend Outside School Hours Care that there will be no service tomorrow. Whether a limited program will be offered for the children of essential services employees has not yet been communicated. I will ensure that this advice is passed on as soon as it comes through to me. If the OSHC program goes ahead after tomorrow, it will only cater for children whose parents are working in essential services and normal charges will apply.
For those parents who are currently working in essential services (ambulance, fire, hospitals, medical professions etc.), and do not have adequate child care arrangements, the school has been asked by Education Victoria, and subsequently Catholic Education Melbourne, to consider providing limited supervision for their children during school hours for the remainder of this week. If you are in this position, please notify the school as to the essential service you are involved in, along with your child’s name, to allow us to have adequate supervision during the day.
In line with the Premier's announcement, at this stage we expect that Term 2 will begin on Tuesday 14 April, which is a student-free day, with students scheduled to return on Wednesday 15 April. Any changes to these dates will be guided by the ongoing advice of the Chief Health Officer, and will be communicated to parents.
The Department of Health and Human Services has a number of resources on its website, which explain the virus, detail risk-reduction practices and behaviours, and answer frequently asked questions. These are available at www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus. You can also find information about Catholic education’s response to COVID-19 at www.cecv.catholic.edu.au/Coronavirus-information-for-parents.
In the meantime, we thank all in our community for your ongoing understanding as we seek to keep our school communities safe. Further updates will be provided if there are additional changes.
If you have any queries or concerns, please contact me directly.
