Prayer Rooms

When you pray, go to your inner room, Mt 6: 6

When you pray, go to your inner room ...

What is your inner room? Where do you go to pray? By definition, prayer is simply lifting our minds and our hearts to God. Prayer doesn’t require that we go anywhere, but that we focus our attention and awareness on God. Prayer focuses us on God, it opens us up to God’s love, and hopefully changes or softens our hearts so that we can bring God’s love to one another.

Think of a loved one or close friend. - someone you feel close to and trust. You feel safe and confident to share with that person whatever is going on within you. You know that that person will listen, and will listen with an ear towards care, having your best interest in mind.

Similar to our friend or confidant, God is one that we can go to with anything that lies on our heart or is in our mind. Depending on our need or reason for prayer, how we pray may feel more fitting than another way. While prayer doesn’t require us to go anywhere, sometimes we need to go to different places and spaces to talk to God - different “rooms” where we feel safe and that help us grow in relationship to God.
