No real weapons will ever be used in drama/speech events or on stage. Play weapons that are NECESSARY for drama/speech presentations should be provided by the school seeking to use them in a presentation/performance. All such “weapons” will be facsmiles (toys) or non-functioning prop weapons. The school seeking to use these objects are responsible for storing the prop weapons in a secure, concealed storage area. Students will check out these props when needed and will be supervised at all times by the director. Drama/speech students should be educated on the proper handling and safety techniques of all “weapons” use. Students should not be asked to bring a weapon-like prop to school. All drama/speech weapons like props (a black plastic revolver, an orange pistol, a rubber knife, plastic swords, etc.) should be provided by the school seeking to use these items in a presentation/performance and secured by school personnel. The prop should be wrapped whenever it is moved from one area of the school to another. This moving should be done only by a director. Students should NEVER carry these props through the halls. If a weapon like prop is used in a rehearsal/performance and the sounds can be heard, the director of the performance/presentation should notify the Contest Manager who will confirm with district administration.
