Will the performance centers run on time?

We do our best to keep the centers running as close to on time as possible. Always check your performance center early, as it may run ahead or behind. 

How can I access the WIFI?

An email was sent to all coaches with the WIFI password to PioneerPublic. First, check with your coach, then with the Front Office. Coaches are encouraged to have all tech functional without the use of the internet.

Can I record video or photograph a performance?

No. You must receive written permission from the state office in order to record. Without it, you may disqualify the performer from their event. 

My school has an awesome speech shirt this year. Can I wear it?

Any attire with a school name or logo may not be worn to contest. The IHSSA works to keep contest as neutral as possible and wearing your school gear informs your judge which school this performance belongs to. 

What are the qualifications of the judges? 

ALL IHSSA judges have gone through training and certification.  Please accept your student’s ratings with pride and dignity. Adhere to proper sportsmanship at all times. If you have questions or concerns about the score, please speak with your coach. NEVER approach a judge about a rating.

What if I have questions about a rating?

All questions concerning ratings should be taken to your school’s head coach. Only the head coach should inquire with the Contest Manger. A coach/audience member/student should never approach a judge, especially about a rating.  If you do have a question, please see your coach. Then, the coach will inquire at the head office.

How are ratings given?

At Districts, one judge critiques the performance with a 1, 2, 3, or Disqualification 4 rating.  The judge also gives an oral critique. Only those receiving a I rating advance to State. 

What should I do if I don't know where my student is performing?

Check with your student and coach BEFORE contest day to receive this information. Your coach/student should have this information and will be able to share it with you before contest. 

How do I find out my school code?

Ask your coach before contest for your school code. We will not have this information available for spectators on contest day. 

Can anyone come to contest?

Yes! There is a $5 donation asked of all audience members at the door that funds the IHSSA contest and our speech program.
