Check out my latest post on Affecting Teaching Culture Remotely!
"The teacher is not in the school to impose certain ideas or to form certain habits in the child, but is there as a member of the community to select the influences which shall affect the child and to assist him in properly responding to these influences."
-John Dewey (1897)
My unique experiences have allowed me to see the world in such a beautiful way and my objective is to use that experience to help others find and prepare for their futures. I am the teacher and coach I wished that I had growing up; I am an educator. I hope to facilitate real world experience and inspire curiosity. I enjoy empowering students, teachers, neighbors...whomever. I am passionately curious.
Teaching for me is an art form. From as young as 12 years old I always knew I was meant to teach. As a student I had a very unique educational experience. My family moved quite a bit and as a result I went to four different elementary schools. I then went to three different high schools (Catholic, Public and Private), but a lot of that was me trying to find a proper education for myself in an area where schools were not meeting the needs of their students. I ended up at a very good private school, which allowed me to flourish. I even studied in Argentina during my junior year. I now use all of those experience to drive me as an educator. I realize the power of student-teacher relationships since I had some very powerful as well as some very poor ones. However, to know light, you must also know darkness. All of them have helped make me the man I am today. I hope to have a positive impact on my students, athletes, and colleagues as well as to leave a legacy that will last well beyond my professional career.
I spent my undergrad years at Ursinus College studying Spanish, Latin, and Education. I was their first ever Education Dept Summer Fellow as I researched how to best implement Latin into public middle schools. I then went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude and a member of Phi Beta Kappa with departmental honors in both Latin and Spanish. I have studied abroad both in high school (Argentina) and in college (Spain). I have been a classroom teacher and sports coach (Football, Basketball and Baseball) since the 2005-2006 school year. I received a Masters in Education from Cabrini College in 2011 and I am now a head teacher for our online programs and the lead teacher for technology. I develop and deliver PD sessions and offer support to my colleagues as we all grow and learn so that we can inspire our students and children to be lifelong learners. I am actively looking to take my career to the next level and really effect education on a global level. I believe that we are all meant for great things!
I am married to a Learning Support teacher and we have 2 beautiful children, Elysia (10) and Kaitlyn (7). Teaching has prepared us for this ultimate educational role as parents. So when I am not caring for my students I am caring for my own children and using all that I have learned caring for other's children on my own. As you can see I am very blessed!
