Learners are encouraged to identify their individualised learning goals each week according to the OJC Learning Numeracy Progressions.
Evidence is recorded and shared with Learning Coaches, peers and Whanau in order to support the learner with their Numeracy growth, development and next steps.
Below are the Learning Progression statements we encourage our learners to refer to in order to structure and provide focus to their learning.
Once students have selected a learning goal from the progressions they are encouraged to work together in small groups to research and build an understanding of the new Maths concept. The Learning Coach is always there to support this process and provide mini-lessons for each concept. We are hoping to have the students be confident and capable to use their own strategies so that they can build knowledge together as a group. This is called 'Developing Communities of Mathematical Inquiry' and was developed at the University of Stanford, California . These skills and strategies will naturally transfer to any subject matter. It is extremely important that students learn how to learn with ever greater use of new and more complex technology in a rapidly changing society.
