As counselors, it is in our nature to be humble, but it is important to let people know what it is that you do as a school counselor and how you contribute to student success! Any opportunity you may have to talk about your position is important! Reach out to your School Board, local stakeholders, parents, etc. Below are some resources to help you build your own presentation. Please keep in mind that these are only examples. The more information that you can share about your individual program to highlight the amazing things you are doing, the better! Now get out there and start bragging about your program and promoting how you help students and their families!!!
* Create a School Counselor Advisory Committee. This provides multiple opportunities to meet with stakeholders (e.g. parent, staff, community, administration, students, etc. throughout the year.) It is allows school counselors and members to review and make recommendations about school counseling program activities and results, but also talk about the wonderful programs and initiatives that your school provides your students and families.
* Completing an OSCAR (Ohio School Counselor Accountability Report)

* Complete a Powerpoint Presentation to be given at School Open Houses, School Board Meetings, District Meetings, County Educational Service Centers, Child Protective Services, etc. that clarifies the role of the school counselor. It should be simple and informative as well as provide data that.....See the examples below.
* Coordinate with local newspapers to promote positive things going on in your building and within your program(ex. career days, community outreach, student assemblies, etc).
* If possible, go on local news stations to talk about pertinent issues with students. This gives you the ability to share information about what you do as the counselor and how you help resolve issues (Ex. bullying, teen suicide, drug issues, etc.)
