What type of tutoring can students participate in?
All tutoring and mentoring activities will involve the A+ student with other students in the Oak Grove School District.
A minimum of 37.5 hours of the required hours must be in direct student tutoring and/or mentoring. Zero hours will be accepted for community service, setting up events or anything else that does not directly involve student tutoring and/or mentoring.
All tutoring and mentoring must be supervised and verified by a teacher, principal, counselor, or the A+ coordinator.
The required 50 hours of tutoring must be completed prior to graduation to be considered for A+ status. Students are responsible for maintaining copies of their tutoring logs and turning them into the A+ office.
Students who are ready to tutor need to communicate with Mr. Newman, A+ Coordinator.
Tutoring opportunities: Before/After School, A+ Class (Seniors Only), Panther Pride Time, Summer Academy, Special Olympics
Can I volunteer at my local daycare, church, youth club, sports club, or something similar?
This cannot be used as any of the required educational tutoring hours (37.5 minimum).
This may work as part of the 12.5 allowed hours of job shadowing, check with the A+ Coordinator first.
When can students start A+?
We recommend incoming Freshman or any new students join the A+ program by signing the letter of intent (Located in the OGHS office).
A+ students do not need to start tutoring until Sophomore year, but they are welcome to begin immediately during their Freshman year if they would like.
Students must join A+ prior to 2nd semester of their Senior year.
When are all requirements due?
By graduation, Senior year.
If a student wants to be recognized at the awards assembly and graduation, the due date will be announced each year (Late April).
