Tier I Instructional Curriculum

Tier I instruction is critically important in the context of education because it forms the foundation for a student's learning and academic success. It is the cornerstone of effective educational practice and is essential for improving student outcomes. English Language Arts instruction in Ogden School District is founded in the science of reading. Daily Tier I Time Allocation

Time allocations help ensure that different components of the ELA curriculum such as phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, oral language and writing receive appropriate attention. A balanced curriculum ensures that students develop a wide range of language skills.

CKLA stands for Core Knowledge Language Arts, a comprehensive English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum developed by the Core Knowledge Foundation and distributed by Amplify Education. It's widely used in K–5 classrooms across the U.S. and is designed to build strong foundations in both reading skills and background knowledge—a combination essential for long-term reading comprehension and academic success.

Tier II Instructional Curriculum

Tier II reading instruction offers more focused instruction than does the typical classroom reading instruction. It does so in order to remediate skill deficits, pre-teach and review skills for Tier I lessons, and provide multiple opportunities to practice.

Daily Tier II Time Allocation

According to the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Practice Guide, Tier II reading groups should meet three to five times a week for 20–40 minutes per day. However, the length of the sessions may vary depending on the grade level and the needs of the students.

95 Percent Group

95 Percent Group is an evidence-based state and district approved Tier II phonics program, it builds skills in students who need additional support across the board.

Bridge the Gap

Bridge the Gap is a series of systematic phonemic awareness intervention lessons for students in 2nd grade and above. These lessons include explicit instruction in early, basic, and advanced phonemic awareness skills. The lessons can be used in small groups or with individual students who struggle to decode words automatically.

REWARDS

The REWARDS program is a research-based, short-term, and specialized program for students in grades 4-6 who struggle reading long, multisyllabic words and comprehending content-area text.

Read Live

Read Live is an intervention for 1st-6th graders that provides an interactive reading experience to help students build fluency, increase reading accuracy, strengthen comprehension and vocabulary, develop automaticity, all while working independently most of the time.
