Early Literacy Vision 

Ogden School District believes that our students will leave elementary schools with the literacy skills necessary to make positive contributions and achieve future academic success as they prepare for graduation and future aspirations. 

As we work to refine our Tier 1 instruction, using the knowledge we have gained through the implementation of LETRS, we want to emphasize the importance of students having strong foundational reading skills.   This site will provide us with the tools needed to enhance our Wonders curriculum, putting us on the path to meet our Nexus Elevated goals. 

Nexus Elevated Goals | Literacy

Objective 1:

 At least 50% of all grade 3-8 students will demonstrate proficiency on the RISE ELA assessments by 2022.

Objective 2: 

At least 60% all students will read At or Above Benchmark by the end of Grade 3 (as measured by Acadience Reading) by 2022.

Early Literacy State Goals

Uniform Growth Goal:

60% of all 1st-3rd grade students will achieve Typical or Better Growth on Acadience Reading from BOY to EOY.

Local Goal 1:

Ogden School District will maintain the percentage of 1st grade students in the at or above benchmark category on Acadience Reading composite from BOY to EOY.

Local Goal 2:

Ogden School District will maintain the percentage of 2nd grade students in the at or above benchmark category on Acadience Reading composite from BOY to EOY.

Wonders Core Curriculum

Wonders offers a connected suite of programs to support core English Language Arts (ELA) instruction, English Learners, Special Education and Intervention. Combining research-based instruction with new tools to meet today's challenges.


Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling

LETRS® is a professional development course that bridges deep, meaningful research into practical classroom success. LETRS provides educators with the background, depth of knowledge, and tools to teach language and literacy skills to every student. LETRS can be used regardless of the literacy program in use.

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness is a well-organized 35-week curriculum of daily phonemic awareness lesson plans. Developed on a systematic scope and sequence of skills, each level focuses on eight phonemic awareness skills, along with two additional activities to develop letter and sound recognition, and language awareness.

The lessons are designed to deliver Tier 1 phonemic awareness instruction in a whole group setting. For students in need of extra support, portions of lessons could be used in a small group and serve as a “second dose” of phonemic awareness instruction.

Enhanced Core Reading Instruction

Enhanced Core Reading Instruction (ECRI) is a supplementary resource that utilizes predictable, explicit and effective instructional routines (templates) to enhance our Wonders curriculum and to achieve more favorable outcomes for our students.

The ECRI lessons align directly with the scope and sequence of Wonders and will enhance its effectiveness through the use of the consistent routines and strategically selected practice opportunities.

Bridge the Gap | Heggerty

Bridge the Gap is a series of systematic phonemic awareness intervention lessons for students in 2nd grade and above. These lessons include explicit instruction in early, basic, and advanced phonemic awareness skills.

The lessons can be used in small groups or with individual students who struggle to decode words automatically. The lessons in Bridge the Gap were written to provide teachers, specialists, and interventionists with a simplified curriculum for teaching phonological and phonemic awareness with targeted instruction, based on student needs.

REWARDS

The REWARDS family is a powerful research-based, short-term, and specialized program for adolescent students in grades 4-6 who struggle reading long, multisyllabic words and comprehending content-area text. With explicit, systematic, teacher-led instruction, this intervention gives students new skills to unlock grade-level content-area text.

REWARDS Intermediate breaks the words into manageable chunks, increasing students' ability to recognize recurring patterns, while also providing students with an understanding of the meaning of various word parts.

REWARDS PLUS: Social Studies and Science apply fluency skills and strategies to authentic content.

Read Naturally Live

Read Naturally Live is an online reading program that accelerates reading achievement by combining the research-proven strategies of teacher modeling, repeated reading, and progress monitoring. A student works at his or her own pace in an appropriate level of material. The student masters a story by reading along with audio and then practicing the story until he or she can read it fluently and with comprehension.

Read Naturally Live is an intervention for 1st-6th graders that provides an interactive reading experience to help students build fluency, increase reading accuracy, strengthen comprehension and vocabulary, develop automaticity, all while working independently most of the time.


95 Percent Group

95 Percent Group is an evidence-based program that guides students to grade-level mastery with 95 Phonics Lesson Library.  As a precision tool, 95 Phonics Lesson Library gives students the targeted intervention they need to fill specific skill gaps. As a step-by-step phonics program, it builds skills in students who need additional support across the board.
