This year, students will be separating into one of the four 2nd-grade classrooms for our math period. I will be teaching our math COMPASS class, and standard classes will be taught by our other three 2nd-grade teachers. Your student may be in my class if they qualify for math COMPASS (our advanced learning program), or with another teacher where their learning needs will be best met. Reach out to your student's math teacher (listed in Aspire) for any questions regarding math.

Reveal Math is the curriculum we implement for math at Odyssey. Reveal is wonderful because of its focus on critical thinking skills, real-world application, and differentiation. Several components of Reveal allow teachers to individualize learning needs for students, giving them deeper instruction, reinforcement, or extension wherever students need it. Reveal integrates with the online program ALEKS, which develops an individualized learning path for students based on standards mastery.

If your student is in my math class, the following homework policy will apply.

While implementing standards-based grading practices, homework will not be turned in or graded this year in 2nd grade. However, pages from Reveal Math may be sent home periodically as optional practice. If you feel you would like extra challenges or reinforcement for your student to complete at home, you can reach out, and I will send pages home with your student once per unit or a digital copy via email.

How you can help at home: Reinforce the "hundreds", "tens" and "ones" places, and the value of the digit in each place. (ex. the "5" in 524 is in the hundreds place, and its value is 500)
