Versus...
The Persona series may be the largest mass-market game that poses a threat to my game. To narrow it down to one game, Persona 5 would be the candidate. How “Thelema” distinguishes itself from “Persona 5” is by setting the player on five similar, yet different routes unlike “Persona 5” which occurs later on in the game. As “Persona 5” highlights the use of arcanas for the playable characters- “Thelema” makes the player choose one composition of five from the start.
“Thelema” also offers unique relationship building. “Thelema” embodies the importance of choice when interacting with characters. As “Persona 5’s” confidants do not express negative emotions towards a player long-term, “Thelema” will. In “Thelema,” the gods will not take betrayal lightly and will ensure the player is on high alert- making future choices more important.
The last distinction “Thelema” has from “Persona 5” is the relationship statistics. For example, the bonds you make can be both positively and negatively affected. When negatively affected, it unlocks new abilities for the player to explore. This ensures the player is not following a linear path and offers unique variety.
