These organizations are dedicated to the improvement of Technology Education throughout the Commonwealth. Working together, ODU and VTEEA are offering workshops to enhance curriculum for teachers in the areas of STEM, Technology Education, and Engineering.

The Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association (VTEEA) is a professional organization whose goal is to promote and encourage STEM education. Since 1958, the Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association, an organization of technology and engineering education professionals promoting the programs of technology and engineering education and their ideas, sponsors programs and activities for students and teachers, produces publications and continues to advance work for the profession of technology and engineering education.
VTEEA is constantly working throughout the year offering first class activities, leadership opportunities, educational workshops, and a powerful State Leadership Conference. It works on your behalf advocating the technology industry and the initiatives to develop a world-class knowledge of the future workforce and education needed in Virginia.
Technology education is a critical shortage teaching area in Virginia for middle school and high school. Technology education is not just learning about computers or other communications devices such as cell phones. Technology education studies the human designed world and is closely tied to science education which studies the natural environment. The technology education program includes the study of technological systems, processes, and artifacts and most major courses contain laboratory activities to help students understand the tools, materials, and principles associated with medical, agricultural, biological, energy and power, communication, transportation, manufacturing, and construction technologies.
Dr. Reed has over 22 years of teaching, administration, and research experience. His research efforts have led to over 40 publications and grants and contracts totaling approximately $1,000,000. In 2014 Dr. Reed was named the Outstanding Technology and Engineering Teacher Educator by the Council on Technology and Engineering Teacher Education.
Ms. Ferguson is currently working on her PhD at Old Dominion University. With over 25 years of experience in the Technology Education laboratory, she has developed, borrowed, and shared many classroom lessons throughout her career. As Department Chair, her Technology Education program at Carver College and Career Academy received the 2018 ITEEA Program of the Year.
