Thank you for your interest in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program at Old Dominion University. Our program, situated in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences and College of Health Sciences, is a three year full-time in person professional doctoral program located on our campus in Norfolk, Virginia.
Many Occupational Therapy Programs across the country require students to complete observation hours at a site where occupational therapy services are provided. Here at ODU, we acknowledge that obtaining necessary observation hours is difficult for many students and sites. We also recognize that students often leave their observations with many unanswered questions and have little opportunity to reflect on their learning and its impact on their educational plans. We require that ODU OT applicants complete the following Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program Observation Modules and accompanying activities instead of completing site observation hours.
During your exploration of the modules, we hope to expand your knowledge of occupational therapy, its philosophy and values, and what makes occupational therapy unique.
We will examine how we use occupation, the things that we all want and need to do to fill our lives with meaning, to support health and wellbeing.
As you learn about the profession, you will get a glimpse into the many places that occupational therapists work and who they work with.
At the end of each module we have posted a reflection question for you to consider. Reflection is a part of every occupational therapy program and essential to our professional growth. After each module, spend a few moments thinking about the information shared. Examine how the information was similar and/or different to what you already know. Consider how the information changes your ideas about the profession and your professional interests. Identify the next steps you might take. Down load the Reflection Summary document using the button below and share your thoughtful reflections in response to the summary questions posed after each section.
