“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will.” —George Bernard Shaw
As a group, Team Silver worked together using our creative minds and personal experiences to come up with our concept of "Monarchs Flipping the Classroom".
We have all had experiences with faculty/staff here we didn't feel comfortable coming to them or have had issues receiving help or feedback from them.
Based on the responses we received from our surveys, we see that students believe that faculty members should be more understanding and willing to work with other students. We want to move forward with making the relationship between faculty/staff and students more positive.
The idea we have is to collaborate with organizations that would be willing to lead these training sessions. Also we would like the students who are leading the sessions to join the meetings of faculty groups where they discuss on how they can do better as faculty/staff members.
Sending out surveys to students was a part of our empathy phase. Together, we were able to use our results for a human-centered solution that can be used beyond just ODU, other Universities could use this idea.
As a group, we know that the relationship between students and faculty/staff members isn't going to be fixed overnight, it's going to take time and that 's okay. We would rather the process be taken with ease, than just a quick fix.
When it comes to the design phase, there's always going to be Iteration. This is the phase when Team Silver had to take a pause in our design thinking and really ask ourselves "what really needs to be fixed". During this time, we were able to embrace the pause we had to take and come up with a solution. We believe Iteration allows us to take the time to learn from our mistakes and use them as tools that can help us for the better.
