The Problem

Lack of Cyber Hygiene in Society

As technology evolves daily, society still struggles with general cyber hygiene awareness.  Lacking knowledge of proper cybersecurity poses a major risk for individuals and organizations.

Throughout all generations, there has been a lack of knowledge regarding proper cyber hygiene.  With society becoming further dependent on technology to aid our daily lives, this lack of cyber hygiene knowledge could lead to individuals being scammed, losing important data, and having their identity stolen, among many other issues.  Therefore, knowing the proper information to prevent these types of breaches from happening is valuable.  It is important to ensure that younger generations understand cyber hygiene so they may carry that insight with them throughout their lives and be less susceptible to cyber threats.

Building Empathy

Our team wanted to understand the situation at hand.

Our team members interviewed a handful of people from various backgrounds by asking about their cyber hygiene habits.  We determined that many adults have lived most of their lives and are unfamiliar with cyber hygiene practices.  We believe that if K-12 students are taught cyber hygiene in regular computer course offerings, they can retain that knowledge and use it for the rest of their lives.
