Student performing a science experiment in a science lab.
Think way, way back to grade 9 science. You were a little shorter, a little more naive. You were still into Pokemon. And this is one of the first times you would have had to take a quiz (or test) on WHMIS so that you could participate in labs!
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a system that governs how you receive important health and safety information on hazardous products. It gives you information on how to use, handle, or store chemicals in a way that is clear and consistent.
WHMIS in Canada aligns with the worldwide hazard communication system called GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals).
A classroom or discussion graphic supports the reflection activity about understanding hazard information.
Things to consider:
Why did Canada transition WHMIS in 2015 to align with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS)?
What kind of information does WHMIS provide?
Record your answer in your Student Workbook.
