Albany Community School's Vision:
We strive to provide an environment where students will develop to their fullest.
Happy Summer!
As we wrap up the school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate the many wonderful moments and milestones we experienced together. It has been a year full of growth, learning, and community!
We are thrilled to share that our students met our goal of increasing proficiency in reading and math by 15% on the STAR360 assessments—an incredible accomplishment! Additionally, we aimed to reduce chronic absenteeism from 29.3% to 20%. While we didn’t quite hit that target, we came close with a significant improvement to 22%! Thank you for your continued partnership and support in helping your child succeed.
This year, our teachers engaged in meaningful professional learning through coaching with both the All Learners Network and the Stern Center. These partnerships enhanced instructional practices and helped our educators design more effective and responsive learning experiences for all students.
We were also able to make some exciting updates to our learning spaces using state funds. Some classrooms received new furniture, including whiteboard tables and flexible seating options to support student engagement. We also expanded our classroom and library book collections with many wonderful new titles.
Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. We wish you a restful and joyful summer!
I imagine a school where students are excited to be—where they are fully engaged in their learning, feel safe to take risks, and know they can be themselves. A school where mistakes are part of the process, where teachers find joy and fulfillment in their work, and where our community is rooted in mutual respect, kindness, and love. That is the kind of school environment I hope to create and grow alongside you.
I’m thrilled to continue serving as principal here at Albany, a role I’ve held since November 2021. Before that, I spent many years as a teacher here, in New Hampshire, and in rural Alaska. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking—especially the 4,000-footers in New Hampshire—and in the summer of 2021, I thru-hiked the Long Trail (Vermont from the MA border to the Canadian border). I also love reading, spinning fiber into yarn for knitting, and training my spirited labradoodle, Magnolia.
Working with students brings me great joy, and I’m especially excited to lead our school through this new chapter as we launch our first year with a dedicated middle school. I look forward to partnering with you in creating a vibrant, supportive, and engaging learning community.
Born and raised in Massachusetts, I moved to Vermont in 2004 after living in Boston and Philadelphia. After purchasing 13 acres in Brownington, my husband I bought a 13 ft. 1970 Skamper (camper) where we lived with our two cats and two dogs while building our house and awaiting the birth of our child.
Prior to working at Albany Community School, I worked for nearly 20 years in the natural foods industry, most recently as manager/lead buyer for Newport Natural Foods.
I started working at Albany Community School in 2018 and this is my favorite job ever! I really enjoy being around kids and their kid energy. I am looking forward to the beginning of the school year and having our building full of kids once again.
