Students will read and analyze a variety of literature genres. These models of good writing will serve as examples for students’ own writing. Throughout this process the 6 Traits of Writing are analyzed, vocabulary is added, and grammar is reviewed. Several novels will be read during the year, including The Golden Goblet and Maniac Magee.

Students will learn active reading, literary analysis, and writing a response to reading. Students will develop an appreciation for diverse types of literature. Students will also learn to do proper research and oral speaking skills. This culminates in a joint History/English research paper and oral presentation.
