At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
get your new GitHub account
log into Repl.it with your GitHub account
review logging into your @mths.ca account
review Computer Use Policy, especially board intranet
go over git and GitHub (see video "What is Git and GitHub?") up to 1:41
what is git → version control system
what is GitHub → internet distributed Git system
do demo of getting GitHub account (see video "Getting a GitHub Account")
ensure you use your new @mths.ca account when you register
do demo of creating a GitHub Repo
call it "ICS3U-Intro-02"
ensure you add a "README.md" file
what is Repl.it → a cloud-based integrated development environment (IDE)
do demo of getting Repl.it account
read ICS3U Course Outline (see file below: ↓) and then fill in this form
take a screenshot when done to fill in the Google Form
in the textbook Computer Based Problem Solving
read the Preface
get a GitHub account:
Note: if you already have one from a previous class with me just use it!
create a "ICS3U-Intro-02" repo
login to Repl.it, using your GitHub account:
we will NOT actually be creating a new account, we will be using our new GitHub account to login to Repl.it
go to Repl.it
click on "Log In" on the top right hand side
click the "cat" icon (it is actually the GitHub logo) in the middle top of the page
authorize GitHub to be used as your login to Repl.it
after this you should be logged in
"import" in the new repo (ICS3U-Intro-2) you just created
select "python" as the programing language
take a screenshot of this and add it to your notebook
remember, you MUST have an entry for EVERY SINGLE LESSON

make an OctoCat for yourself
once done, click the "Share" button and download your OctoCat png
goto to your GitHub profile and set this new image as your profile image
try a coding tutorial here:
do the 1st tutorial series, located at the top right in green land
take a screenshot of what you were able to accomplish
NOTE: You can turn on "Closed Captions" to see a printout of what is being said by selecting the "CC" button.
You can also have it translate the closed captions by going to "Settings, Subtitles/CC, Auto-translate" and then pick your prefered language.
