It's hard to believe, but soon you will be joining the St. Patrick's High School Irish Family!
There is a lot to explore when you join a new school. We know that you are ready to make this leap! There are so many activities, clubs, teams, new adventures that are ahead of you. WELCOME!
If you are currently at one of our OCSB feeder schools, some of our staff will visit your class virtually to talk with you about what it will be like at St. Pat's and so that you can ask questions. Your school will send your information to us, so you will be automatically registered.
If you are not currently at one of our feeder schools, you can "Register Now" to visit the OCSB registration information to get started.
There are many ways to learn about activities, clubs, teams, etc.

Listen carefully so that you don't miss a sign-up, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
We ask that students take the responsibility of listening and being aware of sign-ups. Not all activities will be advertised online.
Regular attendance is a key factor to meeting with success at school. It is important that students are at school on time, and ready to learn.
If your child is going to be absent from school, please call the school to let us know. There is an attendance line for your convenience.
If a student arrives late, a parent/guardian must call or send a note to let us know that the student is signing in late. Students who are late must come to the office to sign in upon arrival at school.
For students who are signing out early, they can bring a note, show it to their teacher and then come to the office to sign out.
St. Patrick's High School is fortunate to work with a Chaplaincy Leader and to have a chapel within the school. We pray every morning as school begins. We also celebrate liturgies and Masses together.
An important aspect of our faith life is social justice. Our Dress-Up charity days and our Christmas Campaign/Angel Tree are some examples that are important events at St. Pat's.
Please come prepared with a good combination lock on the first day of school.
It is recommended that students purchase a Dudley (or similar) lock to use. Locks that have wide barrels may not fit through the locker. In addition, key locks or locks using fobs are not permitted. Lock combinations should only be given to your homebase teacher and your parent/guardian. Do not share your combination with any students.
Students should begin to practice using their lock throughout the summer. It is one less thing to cause stress on the first day of school.
Students are expected to keep their lockers neat and tidy. Parents are asked to keep an eye out if gym clothes or lunch bags/containers have not been returning home regularly. At that point, it is likely time for a locker clean-out.
Students in grade 7 have lunch after period 4 (so it is a bit later in the day). Students have 20 minutes to eat lunch, and then they head outside for 20 minutes of recess.
Students may purchase food for their lunch. It is important to note that the time for lunch is limited, and sometimes lines are long. If you are going to have a "treat" one day, you may want to think about trying a different day than Friday, when the lines are usually longer.
Students are welcome to bring their own device to school to use when it is appropriate to do so and as directed by their teacher.
However, students are responsible for their own valuables. Items cannot be left unattended or unsecured.
It can be difficult to manage the grade 7/8 schedule with the number of classes and teachers that students will have. It is wise to come to school on the first day with a binder, paper and some pens/pencils. Teachers will then give information about what supplies might be useful for their class.
Many students bring a phone to school with them, and this is fine. We ask that they respect the directions of their educators when asked to use the phone or put it away.
The phone in the office is for emergency use only (sudden illness, etc.) If your student wants to go to a friend's house after school or to stay for a team practice, they must have made those arrangements ahead of time. The office phone is not available to use in these cases.
Our school day starts at 8:30am. Please try to arrive by 8:20 so that you have time to get settled and be in class before the bell rings.
The grade 7/8 hallways only open at 8:15am, so it is wise not to arrive too early to school.
School finishes at 2:40. Our buses leave pretty promptly, so it is important to be efficient when heading to the bus.
Only students who are being supervised as part of a club, team or activity are permitted to stay after school (with their parent's permission, of course).
The intermediate panel at St. Patrick's High School is full of educators who want to help you to succeed to your full potential.
We have 3 guidance counselors at our school who are available to talk with, for future planning and who can help to access other resources such as a social worker, mental health worker, addictions counselor, psychologist or community-based assistance.
We also have a resource team who provides support to our students who are working with the benefit of an Individual Education Plan. The resource team at your feeder school will help to make this connection. If you are registering from a different school (other than our feeder schools) be sure to bring a copy of the IEP at registration.
There is also support available for our English Language Learners, reading support and there may be other opportunities from time to time.
St. Patrick's High School has OC Transpo service as our school transportation for students who are eligible. To find out if you are eligible, please visit the OSTA website. Students who qualify will receive a Presto bus pass to use. It is very important to take good care of your Presto pass and to register it. This ensures that if it is lost, you will be able to make arrangements to get a new one.
We do have many OC Transpo routes that are designated for St. Patrick's students, but students are also able to take regular bus routes. It is very wise to have a second route planned in case of a missed bus.
St. Patrick's students proudly wear our school uniform. Students are expected to be in uniform starting on the first day of school. Uniforms can be ordered from Top Marks at any time. There is additional information in the About our School section and in the FAQ.
It is important that you keep your uniform clean and tidy. Your uniform shirt and pants should be laundered at least twice per week to keep them fresh.
On Wednesdays, we have Spiritwear day. Students are permitted to wear a St. Pat's team or club shirt with their uniform pants/skirts. There will be opportunities as the year goes on to purchase Spiritwear, homebase t-shirts, etc.
On the last Monday of each month, we have a "Dress-Up" day for charity. Students are encouraged to bring in $1 that goes towards a designated charity. On those days, you do not have to wear your school uniform.
Students are expected to leave their coats and school bags in their lockers. Hats are not permitted to be worn in the school.
Towards the end of August, you will receive information from the school about start-up. It is important that parents are signed up with School Messenger to be sure to receive emails. Also, it is wise to check the St. Pat's website often in case an email misses you.
For the last week (or two) of summer, you may want to adjust your bedtime, waking time, and lunch to help you get back into the swing of school routines.
On a designated day, we invite new grade 7's to come to the school to pick up information packets and presto bus passes (for students who qualify) and pay your student fee.
On the first day of school, School Ambassadors and staff will help you as you arrive and there will be lots of people to direct you where to go. Our grade 7's will gather in homeroom groups in the grade 7/8 gym before going to class with their teacher. Lists will be posted around the gym so that you know which homebase you are in.
