RULES
GENERAL RULES
All matches will be 30 minutes to ensure games don't get backed up. You will play on the hour or the half hour. If your set is tied at the 30 minute mark, you may play one more point to determine the winner. Exact scores do not need to be reported - just the match winners.
Coaches - due to the size of the venue and amount of teams, we respectfully ask you to be as visible as possible and help with any on-court or off-court disputes involving your students.
Students will have access to a water bottle re-fill station outside as well as a hose to wash off sand.
Due to several issues in the past, the Richcraft Sensplex (hockey complex) will NOT be available for use.
SCHOOL DRESS CODE in effect. I am not worried about specifics ike spaghetti straps, etc, but shirts and shorts must be worn at all times.
GAME TIME
Games are self-refereed. When in doubt, RE-SERVE, talk to a coach, ask at the scorer’s table for a rule clarification or ask a volunteer for help. Offensive language or behaviour will NOT be tolerated.
Rock, paper, scissors, coin flip or ball spin for choice of serve or side.
Teams switch sides after every 5 or 7 points.
No step in on serve.
All games are 2 sets to 18 pts straight. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WIN BY 2. If split, point differential is first considered. If still tied (i.e. 18-15 and 15-18), spin ball or flip a coin for serve/receive selection and play a final point.
Losing teams move down to the lower bracket and winning teams move laterally and stay in the winning bracket.
One rep from both the winning and losing teams must report the result to the tent to find out where to play next.
All divisions will adhere to the following:
No open hand tipping (jousts/knuckles are allowed).
No rotation required, but all players must rotate to serve.
No players are considered back court/front court.
*FOURS will play indoor rules, but with the modifications listed above.
*DOUBLES will play Official Beach Rules - you can only set a hard driven ball and a block counts as a touch.
*COED SPECIFIC: Boys must attack/hit behind 3 meter line (self drawn out ahead of time in sand). Girls can hit and block without restriction. Boys can't block girls, but can block a boy hitting from behind the 3 meter line. -Boys can contact or joust the ball in front of the 3 meter line/at the net, but if the ball goes over, it must have a distinct upward trajectory (i.e. not an attack or downball).
Triple elimination (3 game guarantee) style. All games are 2 sets to straight 18, NOT win by 2.
Know when and where you play and please try to start on time! If you miss your game, you will lose by default. Each division will be assigned a set of courts - consider setting up nearby to stay in the loop.
The captain of both teams must proceed to the appropriate score tent immediately after the match TO REPORT THE RESULT. AT THIS POINT, THEY WILL FIND OUT WHERE AND WHEN THEIR NEXT MATCH IS BY LOOKING AT THE TOURNAMENT BRACKET FOR YOUR DIVISION. ASK THE SCOREKEEPER/CONVENOR FOR HELP AT ANY TIME.
All DOUBLES players will report their scores to the main registration tent . All FOURS players will report their scores to the side tent, located on the other side of the courts, closer to the soccer field and directly behind the arena (see map).
