Lessons This Year

• Introduction to CS + Karel

  • We conducted a blindfolded camera game to practice Karel commands and collaboration. Karel is a great language to get familiar with computer science lingo.

• Binary + Computer Hardware

  • We taught the girls to fluently convert numbers from binary to decimal and vice versa. We learned how these ones and zeroes are what helps a computer run.

• HTML/CSS + Web Development

  • We learned how to develop websites about ourselves.

• Java w/ Dr. Srinivasan

  • We got a fabulous guest speaker to teach us the basics of Java by learning how to code making the sun set and manipulating shapes.

• 3D Animation + CS in Film

  • We learned how animators have to use STEM in their work every day; there is artistic scope in the computer science world.

• Vinyl Cutting + Photoshop

  • Because of the girls' demand, we wanted to explore more artistic STEM fields. We designed our won stickers using photoshop.

• Robotics + Engineering

  • We used robotics to complete assortments of tasks with multiple stations and materials.

• EOY Awards

  • We wanted to celebrate the girls' accomplishments with awards, review games, and food!
