Pre-K Emergent Multilingual Learner Profile Process

"The Emergent Multilingual Learner Profile Process is a protocol for when a prekindergarten student's home or primary language is other than English. All information gathered during this protocol should be shared with Kindergarten teachers to ensure that there is an effective and successful transition from Prekindergarten to Kindergarten."

"The Language Profile gathers information about all students in Prekindergarten, and identifies the existing language(s) and linguistic experiences of young students and is part of an integral protocol that will assist educators in providing instructional services that best meet the needs of EMLs.

Although it is designed for younger students, it can be helpful to use this information during an LPT or future discussions about placement or special education needs.

"Students identified by the EML Language Profile are entitled to a combination of supports and instruction in their home language(s) while learning English. "
